We’ve been following the work of actor Brian J. Smith since he was a student at Plano’s Collin College, so it’s a kick to see that he’s been cast as Blake Lively’s new love interest on the TV series Gossip Girl.

A graduate of The Juilliard School, Smith grew up in Allen and came to our attention around 2002 when he was a student actor at Collin College, where he was a knockout in productions of A Clockwork Orange and Romeo & Juliet.

He also had roles at Dallas Theater Center and WaterTower Theatre before he left for Juilliard.

If you’re a Sci-Fi, excuse me, Syfy channel watcher, you might know him as Lieutenant Scott on two seasons of Stargate Universe and from the recent made-for-cable flick Red Faction: Origins.

He also was in PBS’ Masterpiece remake of Murder on the Orient Express and he recently had an off-Broadway run in the play The Little Black Dress.

Smith, who lives in Manhattan, will commute to Los Angeles to shoot location stuff for Gossip Girl (he meets Blake Lively’s character, Serena van der Woodsen, at her vacation home).

He’ll be part of a six-episode storyline, debuting in the season premiere on Monday, September 26. The show airs on The CW.

The only other details we know so far are that Smith’s character’s name is Max and he’s an up-and-coming Los Angeles chef.
