For a while now, at least since March, the writing on the wall has suggested that Nolan Ryan’s exit from the Rangers’ front office was imminent.
That writing has now migrated from the wall and into an official announcement from the club. His tenure as CEO officially ends on Halloween.
“This organization is in good hands,” he said in the release. “I am leaving with a lot of great memories from my tenure here and I know the organization will continue to thrive in the years to come.”

Ryan became the team’s president in 2008, 15 years after retiring as a player. When general manager Jon Daniels and COO Rick George took over day-to-day operations in the spring, Ryan flirted semi-publicly with leaving but was ultimately convinced to stay.
So far at least, there hasn’t been much reporting or speculation on why he decided to leave now. Maybe a second late-season Rangers implosion was too much to bear. Or maybe he just wanted to spend more time with his all-natural Nolan Ryan-brand beef.
