Today, in an interview with Billboard, the Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am, like the NFL before him, also chose not to comment on the report.
“I didn’t say we were doing that,” the performer said of the rumors that his band was playing the halftime show. “You said it.”
But he did speculate to Billboard about how much an honor it would be to perform the show. See his response to that query after the jump.
“Alongside those cats, it’s like, ‘Wow, we’re in that company?!
Oh, man…’ he said. “I can’t even explain it…And, y’know, we’re
Americans. Some of those cats weren’t even Americans. I love the Rolling
Stones. I love U2. I love the Who. I love Prince…but this would be Americans, and new Americans, this
generation. When those cats played the Super Bowl, their songs weren’t
on the Top 40 at that time. So it’s like, wow, our songs are on the
radio, and we’re in that company. That’s a sign that tells us where we
can go with our career.”
Ugh. Maybe they’re playing this thing after all.
Update at 1:50 p.m.: Here’s the Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s reasoning behind pushing the rumor. Seems fairly legit. Not sure why they chose to not call out the source’s name, though, if it was an on-the-record slip of the tongue…
