Congrats to three local high school students who were recently honored as Presidential Scholars of the Arts. Very big deal. These three kids — Jay Jackson (Carrollton), Brittanie Brown (Oak Cliff) and Asher Frankfurt (Dallas) — were three of just 20 students nationwide to win the award.

The three were honored at by President Bush during a White House reception on a recent trip to Washington D.C. While there, Frankfurt, a screenwriter, gave a reading and had his work displayed in a special exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, while Jackson and Brown, a dance choreographer and modern dancer, respectively, performed at the Kennedy Center. –Jesse Hyde
