The council won’t be voting today on final arrangements for the convention center hotel project, which includes approval of the development agreement and Guaranteed Maximum Price with Matthews Southwest and the operator agreement with Omni Hotels, leading us to believe the final vote on this boondoggle will take place January 28.
During the final three months of ’08, the city forked over $53,307.81 to Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro LLP for legal fees connected to the hotel, and we’re guessing that number is about to get a whole lot bigger.
We have no confirmation from Crow Holdings, but once the council approves the final deal, we might be able to hear Harlan Crow screaming “INJUNCTION” from his new offices at Old Parkland across the street from Unfair Park headquarters. Since Mayor Tom and the council plan to start construction on the hotel before the May 9 referendum, a lawsuit might be Crow’s last hope.
We hear Jim Butler is “one of the top hotel lawyers in the world.” Wonder how much that’ll cost the taxpayers?
