Lest you have any illusions about Dallasites’ becoming less car dependent or more adept at driving in winter weather, here’s the Google traffic map for the city as of about noon (the red is bad, very, very, bad). And heaven forbid you think about taking an Uber. As of writing, UberX prices in Oak Lawn are running 6.5 times the normal rate.

Many local school districts have sent or are sending kids home early — DISD, notably, has not — and the cancellations and postponements are starting to pile up. The Cowtown Marathon’s Saturday races won’t be happening and the main event, scheduled for Sunday, has been moved to 8 a.m.. A bunch of high basketball playoff games scheduled for tonight have been, for the moment, postponed until tomorrow.

DART, to its credit, is continuing to operate as close to a normal schedule as it can — the agency’s buses do have to navigate the same traffic nightmare as everyone else, though.

The snow is expected to stick around in Dallas proper until mid-afternoon. Intermittent rain and freezing drizzle is expected tonight and through most of the day tomorrow.
