Doug Armstrong’s still the Stars’ GM, far as the team’s Web site is concerned.
So, Tom Hicks finally figured out what the rest of hockeydom’s known for ages: The Dallas Stars need a change. So he’s fired general manager Doug Armstrong, which is a start. But folks who know hockey — which is to say, Canadians — think Hicks hasn’t done enough. Wonders Eric Duhatschek on The Globe and Mail‘s Hockey Blog, why didn’t Hicks can coach Dave Tippett, who helped get this team to an underwhelming 7-7-3 — including that dreadful loss to the Los Angeles Kings Saturday night, during which Dallas blew a 4-0 lead going into the third period? Because, writes Duhatschek, firing Armstrong ain’t gonna help much in the near future:
Whoever inherits the team is going to find that the future isn’t exactly all that bright. No. 1 draft choices in 2007 and 2008 were traded away for Ladislav Nagy and Mattias Norstrom respectively.
