Didn’t hear this myself, but several P1s are telling me today that ol’ buddy George Dunham announced yesterday on The Ticket that he is no longer the public address voice of the Dallas Cowboys. Long the P.A. voice at Texas Stadium, Dunham said he was personally relieved of his duties this week by none other than owner Jerry Jones.
I know the initial reaction will be to storm 105.3 The Fan‘s CBS-fortified castle with pitchforks and torches. But you shouldn’t be surprised at this move. Are you?
Think about it. Why would The Fan allow Jones to have a Ticket host voicing his new stadium’s games in the first year of a deal with it as the team’s new flagship radio station?
Dunham: “Fans, remember to tune in to 105.3 The Fan’s post-game show on the way home.”

Awkward. For The Fan. And Dunham.
Even though it had to happen, doesn’t mean Dunham won’t be missed.
Replacing the legendary Murphy Martin, Dunham had been the in-stadium voice of the Cowboys since 1999. (Hmm, the Cowboys never won a playoff game during his regime. Coincidence?). Though the P.A. would cleverly sneak in Ticket drops during the game, Dunham wasn’t Humble Billy Hayes over-the-top enthusiastic.
He would, however, often channel old NFL Films voice John Facenda before a big play:
“Thuuuuud and three!”
Bottom line: He was good. But now he’s gone.
I’ll effort to get the name of his replacement – which will also be the voice of Super Bowl XLV. But until then, who would you like to hear as the new voice of Cowboys Stadium?
For the record, I don’t think CBS will consider Russ Martin.
