Johnny Manziel learned the hard way what happens when a suddenly famous college football player celebrates one of the more impressive individual performances in recent bowl game history by publicly guzzling Dom Perignon: People tsk-tsk and tell him to be a better role model.
He’s now discovered what happens when said college football player is caught exceeding the speed limit while passing through Ennis: You get a ticket, and then have that fact broadcast on Facebook by the municipal judge overseeing your case.
That municipal judge would be Lee Johnson, a Baylor alum and 26-year veteran of the Ennis municipal bench. According to aggiesports.com, which has a screenshot, Johnson posted the following:
Too funny. So it seems that a certain unnamed (very) recent Heisman Trophy winner from a certain unnamed “college” down south of here got a gift from the Ennis P.D. while he was speeding on the 287 bypass yesterday. It appears that even though the OU defense couldn’t stop him, the City of Ennis P.D. is a different story altogether. Time to grow up/slow down young ‘un. You got your whole life/career ahead of you. Gig Em indeed.

Seven minutes later, apparently realizing that he is supposed to be the impartial arbiter of Manziel’s fate, he adds a comment to clarify things: “I meant to say ‘allegedly’ speeding, my bad.”
The story now has legs, as they say, having been picked up by CBS and others and prompting suggestions that maybe Johnson should sit this case out.
