The Cowboys could’ve been in Dallas.

For years we’ve blamed former mayor Laura Miller and a group of narrow-minded county commissioners like Margaret Keliher. And for years we’ve been right.

Speaking at SMU Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Miller basically told him “don’t let the door hit you on your way out” when he approached her with the idea of building a $600 million stadium in Fair Park back in 2004.

Former quarterback Roger Staubach told me as much back in December when I asked about why Super Bowl XLV was going to be played in Arlington and not Dallas.

“They could’ve pulled this Super Bowl off in a stadium built on the farmers market site,” Staubach said. “It would’ve been an economic driver that would’ve revitalized downtown. There are just so many positives that go along with the stadium…with the game…I just think by the time Dallas figured out what it could have, the ship had sailed.”

Miller’s long been the target of sports spite in our burg. Now, more than ever, she deserves every bit of the venom.
