The Houston Chronicle has the story: Republican State Rep. Betty Brown, who reps Henderson and Kaufman counties, on Tuesday suggested during a House Elections Committee wingding that Asians might oughta “adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here.” And KXAN-Channel 36 down in Austin has the video from the Voter ID hearing, during which Brown made the suggestion — more than once — to Austin attorney and Yale graduate Ramey Ko. “I’m not talking about changing your name,” Brown said after getting some audience giggles. “I’m talking about the transliteration … you could use with us.” According to the Chronicle, “Brown spokesman Jordan Berry said Brown was not making a racially motivated comment but was trying to resolve an identification problem.”
