First thing my dad said to me this morning: “Don Meredith died.” Sure enough. An awful sad day. Dad, a Mustang grad, found out from one his closest friends — Don Woodward, an All-American swimmer on the Hilltop and Meredith’s next-door neighbor when they attended SMU. Turn out the lights indeed — and the news comes on a Monday, no less. In tribute, then, this video we posted last year, shortly after SMU (finally) retired Meredith’s No. 17 — a performance of “Varsity,” still potent after all these years. And you can hear Meredith here too: “Go Dallas Cowboys.” Go indeed.
