Roy Williams was supposed to be the Dallas Cowboys’ No. 1 receiver. But he sucks.
So, despite not starting the first four games last year, Miles Austin ascended into the role and had a breakout season: 81 catches for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns. Tony Romo obviously trusts him. The Cowboys like the 25-year-old enough to place the highest tender available – first- and third-round draft choices – to protect him from leaving via free agency.
There’s a lot to like about Austin. His escapability off the line. His speed and run-after-catch. His contagious smile and generally ecstatic disposition.
