Arkansas’ Darren McFadden
If you trust the rumors, former Arkansas running back Darren McFadden will wind up here permanently as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. But for now, the two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up is merely in the area training for the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine.
Projected as the best running back and possibly the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, McFadden is living in an apartment on the west side of Allen — scooch a bit, Carly, you’ve been trumped — and spending his days driving a brand-spankin’-new black Hummer to the Michael Johnson Performance Center just up the road in McKinney. Apparently, Nike is footing the bill for McFadden, who won consecutive Doak Walker Awards and has NFL teams salivating over his rare combination of size, strength and speed.
McFadden, from Little Rock, could use some time focusing on football after a hectic post-season. After rushing for an underwhelming 105 yards in Arkansas’ Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri, he got handcuffed (but not arrested) during a bar brawl, picked the same agent that represents NBA No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden and somehow found time to mix in fitness tests with, um, other tests. He also stirred up all sorts of trade winds.

Don’t know about you, but no way I surrender Marion Barber and two No. 1s (the 22nd and 28th picks) to the Dolphins for the right to draft him. In fact, not real sure I trade Barber for McFadden straight up. So welcome to town and all, but don’t get too comfortable. –Richie Whitt
