Jody Dean.

A prized pupil of Dallas radio icon Ron Chapman, Dean has been on the local broadcasting scene for 35 years. He’s worked at KRLD 1080 AM, KVIL 103.7 FM and Channel 11. He is currently the morning show host at 98.7 FM KLUV, has a booming voice, was once the associate producer of the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network and is a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

None of which, of course, guarantees he’ll be worth a dang as a public address announcer. But he’d better be.

Let’s face it, we’re spoiled.

$30,000

After original Texas Stadium voice Murphy Martin and most recently 1310 AM The Ticket’s George Dunham since 1999, (Maybe I’m remembering this wrong, but doesn’t JubJub have a thing about Dean?) Cowboys’ fans have been fortunate to have an understated sound unimpeded by the histrionics of a yelling, screaming cheerleader like Humble Billy Hayes.

I expect Dean to be clear, concise and classy. He also recently wrote a book – Finding God in the News – so it’s doubtful he’ll cuss after a Cowboys’ turnover.
