That first McCain/Obama debate was pretty much a snoozefest of the highest order. The second go around tonight should offer a bit more interest, seeing that’s it has a town hall format.

In any case, you can always TiVo the debate and head out to The Loft tonight and catch Jonezetta. Hailing from, of all places, Clinton, Mississippi, Jonezetta is a poppy punk combo with Christian leanings that don’t get in the way of the structured roar.

The band’s latest effort, Cruel to be Young, came out a couple of weeks ago and features David Bazaan from Pedro the Lion and Headphones as a guest vocalist on the song “Sick in the Teeth”. Much more direct than Jonezetta’s previous effort, Popularity, the new disc has a streamlined sound that better suits the band’s creative tendencies.

Headlining tonight’s bill is Shiny Toy Guns, a charismatic quartet with Oklahoma connections that was mentioned in this week’s paper and should provide the perfect foil for Jonezetta’s stylized seriousness. –Darryl Smyers
