Oh my, they are already beginning to trickle in…
Those pesky, quickly made Christmas-themed–sorry, I mean holiday-themed [Jewish Editor’s Note: Damn right you did!]–musical products are already hitting shelves everywhere.
Hell, I got a Christmas CD by Christian/pop singer Amy Grant in May! But, sadly and predictably, most of the holiday offerings are weak and inconsequential.
I always end up listening to the same three every year: Elvis’ Christmas Album, A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector and A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra. Really, that’s all anyone needs.

But if you insist on something more modern, you could do much worse than XO for the Holidays, a free sampler available here. Although the line up lacks the usually requisite big name(s), local rockers THe BAcksliders add some oomph to the proceedings with “That’s How We Do Christmas.” Check it out after the jump.
Other songs of interest include “It Never Snows on Christmas” done by Portland’s Blue Skies for Black Hearts and “Back Home for the Holidays” performed by Atlanta hottie Paris Luna.
Overall, the whole collection is pretty solid, offering a mix of both traditional reverence and rock ‘n’ roll revelry. Add in the bonus of having a good local connection and I might have to look into updating my Christmas CD collection. Maybe.
See THe BAcksliders play at Club Dada tonight, opening for Chris Holt’s old band, Olospo, as it plays a headline, reunion gig. –Darryl Smyers
