Granted, this is hardly a local story–but it’s kinda interesting, and it’s happening tomorrow night at the Meyeson Symphony Center so cha-ching!

Anyway: At tomorrow night’s Brian McKnight show at the Meyerson, McKnight will present his tour support, Matt Cusson, with the Maxell Song of the Year prize from the 12th annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest for his jazz effort, “One Of Those Nights.”

Sure enough, the song’s a pretty legit jazz number–check it out–so, y’know, good on him.

On top of a cool $20k, Cusson also wins a boatload of gear for the nod, as well as some extra gift certificates to various music distribution Web sites because, really, gear and 20 grand ain’t enough.

Really makes you wish you paid attention in jazz piano class, huh? (Oh, and by “you,” I clearly mean “me.”)
