Seems GoGirl Music Fest Doesn’t Hate Men As Much As Other Female-Centric Festivals

The Bright will be there, male members be damned.

A couple of months back, I told you about Mary Hestand from Merry & the Mood Swings organizing a series of concerts at the Dallas Women’s Museum.

As you may recall, the museum told Hestand that all acts had to be female–no male band members, period. So Hestand busted her ass searching high and low for area female singers and all-female bands to fill the bill. She succeeded in that case and now has a more manageable task: Coordinating the 2008 GoGirls Music Fest to take place November 8 at Opening Bell Coffee.

“GoGirls is boy friendly,” Hestand says, “which means bands like The Bright and Rocket Girl can play with their male members.”

Hestand says that the Fest will feature a transgendered performer, but, sadly, She Dick, the drag queen, electropop outfit won’t be performing.

“They don’t have a female member,” explains Hestand.

Besides the acts mentioned above, soulful R&B songstress Rhonda Nicole and eight other acts will complete the line up. A $5 cover charge and proceeds from a silent auction will benefit the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), the charity selected this year to benefit from GoGirlsMusicFests across the country.

Nice to know that the guys can take part in this worthwhile effort. –Darryl Smyers
