It’s been over a year now since former Observer music editor, one-time mayoral candidate and current D Magazine writer Zac Crain last found himself being lambasted in the very dark, very murky waters of metal web site Blabbermouth.com’s comment section.
But, hey, news like this–that Crain’s publisher, De Capo Press, has set a release date for his somewhat controversial Dimebag Darrell biography, Black Tooth Grin–is always sure to light a fire under certain people’s asses.
So, not surprisingly at all, Blabbermouth.com’s comment section is ablaze today with Crain-hating diatribes, most of which are based in the following beliefs:
A) Crain hates Pantera because he once wrote a negative review of the band. (Example: “I have a hard time wanting to read this when the guy writing it has no respect for arguably the greatest metal record ever written…I think I’ll pass.”)

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
B) Crain loves money, and he’s trying to cash in on Dimebag’s death. (Example: “I’m now writing an biography on Zac Crain entitled ‘What A Lowlife, Money Hungry, Piece Of Fucking Shit.'”)
C) All of the above.
There are a few comments in which people explain why they’re excited for the book, too, but those aren’t as fun to copy and paste. Either way, the whole comment thread sure makes for a fun read! Consider it required pre-reading material for the book, which will be released on April 6, 2009, and can be pre-ordered here. —Pete Freedman
