$30,000

Why or why not: Mavericks fans can get in a little pregame preparation this afternoon and still have plenty of time to make the 8:30-ish tip. But despite the $3 pints all day today and every Tuesday, they won’t want to stick around for the game itself because, well, there’s no TV at this homey Exposition Park bar. (On the other hand, the possibility of NOT watching the Mavs whimper away from the series might just be incentive enough to stay.)

Good luck tearing yourself away from $3 pints of Franconia Mai Bock, Saint Arnold’s Summer Pilsner, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and more, though.

Unfortunately, the drink specials don’t extend to the modest but carefully picked selection of bottled craft beers and imports. It would be nice to get a discount on Bear Republic’s Hot Rod Rye, Old Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout, Maredsous 8 and Chimay — red, white and blue. And, in an ideal world, happy hour would also cover the Sunday night pub-trivia contest Geeks Who Drink, or Monday night’s aptly named Bad Ass Jazz with Shelley Carrol, members of his quartet and various guest musicians. Of course, those events are attraction enough without drink specials.

The lack of televised distraction usually makes this bar all the homier, though, as a wide variety of great music adds to the chilled-out atmosphere that makes it an ideal spot to catch up with old friends or meet new ones. The warmly lit, inviting bar area is usually a great hangout, though weather like today’s is perfect for the bar’s spacious patio.
