The plans aren’t set in stone just yet, but H-E-B is planning two new stores in Garland (but still not Oak Cliff): A flagship H-E-B on a 21-acre plot between Crist Road and Firewheel Parkway off President George Bush Turnpike, and the price-competitive sister concept, Joe V’s, in a vacant shopping center located on the northeast corner of Centerville Road and LBJ Freeway.
“Today, I’m proud to share that the City of Garland is considering two exciting development proposals from H-E-B and its family of brands — a major milestone our residents have asked for over many years,” Dylan Hedrick, the mayor of Garland, announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The flagship store will be located at one of Garland’s gateways, strengthening commercial activity in the area and increasing visitation to the Firewheel Town Center. H-E-B has not yet finalized the purchase of the property for the project, but the mayor is confident it will be completed soon. More details will be shared as it develops.
The planned Joe V’s Smart Shop will revive a shopping center that’s been vacant for over 20 years. The store is known for offering high-quality products at lower prices. The Garland location will be the fourth Joe V’s location in North Texas.
City Council Approval
On Monday, March 2, the Garland City Council will consider each of these project proposals. Then on March 17, the council will vote on the projects. All council meetings are open to the public and are streamed live at GarlandTX.gov.
“Garland is growing, investing wisely, and delivering on long-standing priorities,” Hedrick says, “and we’re just getting started.”
H-E-B just got the greenlight from the City of Carrollton to start construction. One Dallas store is planned at Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway. The 139,000 square-foot H-E-B in Forney just opened, and now Garland is on the way.
