Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.

God damn, it’s hot out there, and it’s only June, which means we’ve got many sweaty miles ahead. There’s nothing more important during a Texas summer than having an arsenal of light dishes as the heatwaves waft off the asphalt.

Bolsa’s smoked trout and avocado salad fits that bill, with buttery, smoky trout, crisp watermelon radish, fennel, lemon and herbs. It’s an excellent meal-starter but for those who have overdone it lately — which, let’s face it, isn’t hard in this city — it makes for a nice light meal, too. It made me want to buy a smoker and plant an herb garden — but it’s probably easier just to pop by Bolsa.
