To prepare for this fall’s Best of Dallas® 2012 issue, we’re counting down (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes. If there’s a dish you think we need to try, leave it in the comments, or email me.
NHS Tavern’s Cleaver and Block Burger has an unfair advantage over every other burger I’ve eaten in Dallas: It was the first I ate after moving here.
As I tried to adapt and withered under previously unknown heat, this burger comforted me. Maybe it was the fresh and generously applied toppings, or maybe it was that stunner of a bun. It could have been the seven Pabst Blue Ribbons I drank, too, but it doesn’t matter — the memory of that burger stays with me and likely always will.
