There is a lot going on this week, North Texas. With The State Fair bringing in lots of tourists and hosting its own concerts, there was almost too much this week to really fit into this little list of 10.

DOMi and JDBECK opened their North American tour Monday night at a sold-out Deep Ellum Art Company. The tour comes in support of the duo’s first album, Not Tight, which we named Best New Album in 2022.

The legendary Dallas country trio The Chicks opened their first of two shows at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving on Monday with a snippet of Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation.”

ACL Fest kicked off the first of two weekends this past Friday with a crammed three days of shows at Zilker Park in Austin.

North Texas has had one of the best two weeks in concerts with tour stops by Elton John (in his last North Texas appearance), Flaming Lips, Wu-Tang and Nas, Smashing Pumpkins and Gorillaz, among so many others.

Every week, we get to celebrate the wide range of music North Texas attracts to its hallowed venues, and this week is giving us a lot to celebrate.

It seems like a lot of our old-world habits need some kind of update, even if it’s just for the sake of convenience.

Jane’s Addiction almost got to tour recently with its four original members, but as singer Perry Farrell told us last week, the group’s famed lead guitarist Dave Navarro is still dealing with the lingering effects of long COVID.

For the first time in over four years, Gorillaz is back on tour. And the animated, “virtual” group is bigger than ever, having easily sold out the The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on Saturday.

So, the first question you may be asking is, why? Why is the Observer covering Elton John’s final concert at Globe Life Field, when we covered the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’s first two shows the first time he came to town in 2018.

It’s been almost four decades since Jane’s Addiction played their first show in Dallas, at the legendary Theater Gallery in Deep Ellum.
