Seems that native Fort Worthian Andrew Kenny, founding member and frontman of Austin-by-way-of-Fort Worth act American Analog Set, has started a new band. It’s called The Wooden Birds–and, no big deal, the brand new band’s already been signed to the phenomenal Barsuk label, in fact. Happened on Friday, wouldn’t ya know?
The sound’s not all that off from AmAnSet’s: It’s mellow, indie pop and heavily reliant on Kenny’s vocals and subdued songwriting techniques–which makes sense because, according to this blog, AnAmSet collaborator Leslie Sisson’s a part of the group, too. And so is David Wingo of Ola Podrida, the band named after the arts and crafts mall off Forest and Central Expressway. Also playing in the group is Lymbyc Systym drummer Michael Bell, whcih is interesting because Lymbyc System is opening for Broken Social Scene at the House of Blues on Friday night, and Kenny, according to the press release from Barsuk announcing the signing, recently sat in as a guest artist with the BSS crew.
Which brings us full circle, maybe.
Anyway, keep an eye out for The Wooden Birds’ disc, called Magnolia, due out later this spring.
