Fans who made it down to Hayden‘s recent performance on the June 14 might have noticed that the House of Blues’ Cambridge Room, the spot that housed Hayden’s performance, is now called the Pontiac Garage.

The more intimate venue located inside HOB has always suffered from sub-par sound, but the acts that make their way in there are usually top-notch. I caught a great show a while back by Joseph Arthur, but even then I thought the name of “The Cambridge Room” sounded more like a library than a concert venue.

House of Blues spokesperson Brian Lowe filled us in on the name change: “It’s just a sponsorship deal with General Motors, and we’ll send a press release out next week.”

Lowe also explained that, since the first House of Blues was built in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the original name came in that city’s honor.

$30,000

Seems a few bucks from General Motors can push tradition off the shelf real fast. Whatever the name, we’re hoping that they bring in some engineers to clean up the sound in this newly named garage. –Darryl Smyers
