Some quick hits on the album release front to pass along this afternoon…
- Denton pop-punk stalwarts Bowling for Soup have just wrapped a fairly big week: Just before finding out that their song “Ohio (Come Back to Texas)” was played for the astronauts on NASA space shuttle Discovery this week, the band announced that, on April 26, they’ll be releasing the 11th studio album of their career, called Fishin’ for Woos. After a decade of releases for Jive Records and “amicably” splitting from the major label, the band is releasing this disc on their own. And the first single from the release, “S-S-S-Saturday,” is currently streaming over at AbsolutePunk, so go have a listen.
- After months and months and months of teasing us and feeding our anticipation for local darling Sarah Jaffe‘s upcoming EP, The Way Sound Leaves a Room, the folks at Kirtland Records kind of went an pulled a fast one on us this week, announcing the re-issue (starting tomorrow) of Jaffe’s debut EP, Even Born Again, which was released by Summer Break Records in 2008. No word on a release date for the new EP, but we were there the other day when the folks at Kirtland dropped off a crate of Even Born Again discs at Good Records, so, fans who still haven’t heard Jaffe’s earliest material, here’s your chance. Or, you could just catch her at SXSW, as the New York Times recommends (along with fellow locals John David Kent & The Dumb Angels and Telegraph Canyon).
- Local punk three-piece Here Holy Spain will release the follow-up to their fiery 2009 debut, Manic, on April 5. Released through Idol Records, the disc, called Division, will (again) feature exclusive art work from James O’Barr, creator of The Crow. Catch the band this weekend at our St. Patrick’s Day concert at Energy Square Plaza, where Here Holy Spain will kick off the party with a 12:30 p.m. set.
