To prepare for this fall’s Best of Dallas® 2012 issue, we’re counting down (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes. If there’s a dish you think we need to try, leave it in the comments, or email me.
Too often, bar snacks are relegated to frozen staples, dropped in a deep fryer till they’re golden brown and delicious edible. When a bar takes the time to hand-craft a deep-fried treat it’s hard not to notice.
Hand-crafted Jalapeno poppers can be had at the Free Man, but the kitchen leaves the seeds inside the pepper before stuffing them with cheese. The results are so hot I watched a man turn pink while trying to force his way through a plate.
At City Tavern, though, the kitchen does their best to remove most of the seeds and ribs. The poppers are still spicy enough to make you pause about half way through a plate, but mild enough that you’ll live to tell about it.
