Football wagering ain’t easy. It’s more difficult than trying to make sense of Rick Gosselin’s “From the 50” photo snapped “From the End Zone.” More confounding than the Cowboys yesterday selling out an entire upcoming season — for only the first time in team history. And, let’s face it, even harder than Pinocchio on Viagra.

So halfway through the Cowboys’ season, I’m elated at being 4-5. Granted I’m down a mythical $100, but I’ve got plenty of miserable company. Gosselin and his Dallas’ Only Daily/NFL smugness, for example, is a mediocre 62-61 picking games against the Las Vegas numbers. Sports Illustrated’s Jurassic blow hard, Paul “Dr. Z” Zimmerman, entered last weekend only 38-24 picking games straight up. ESPN’s “Hammerin’” Hank Goldberg is a dreadful 25-26 against the line. KTCK-AM (1310, The Ticket) host Norm Hitzges is 154-159, with his “Picks of the Pole” recently suffering a 2-7 Saturday of college football “double plays.” And these bozos went 1-7 two weeks, and these folks, well, let’s just say I’m a tad skeptical of a “system” that claims to be 176-0.

With that in mind, let’s gamble!

Through eight games the Cowboys have played almost flawless football. They escaped with a win in Buffalo and even hung with New England for three quarters. But at some point they’re going to throw in a clunker, and I fear Sunday is it. The New York Giants, getting 2½ points at home, need this game more than the Cowboys.

$30,000

They torched Dallas for 35 points in the season opener, and their offense is light years better now. Consecutive pristine performances on the road against division rivals is asking a lot. Too much.

Like I’ve said from training camp, I still see the Cowboys winning 11 games, the NFC East and at least one playoff game. But on Sunday, brace yourselves for a bump in the road.

STARTING BANKROLL: $1,000 SEASON RECORD: 4-5 CURRENT BANKROLL: $900 THIS WEEK: New York Giants +2½ over Dallas Cowboys for $250. –Richie Whitt
