I have translated this page from Portuguese to English, but I fear it will not help. Suffice it to say, it has something to do with Dirk Nowitzki: “Set free Nowitzki to dispute Eurocopa.” As in,

The best player of season 2006/07 of the NBA was set free to dispute the masculine Eurocopa of basquete. In this Wednesday, the German section Dirk Nowitzki received endorsement from the Dallas Mavericks to represent its country in the competition, that serves as [something very garbled] for the Games of Pequim-2008.

I know, I know. Could have just come out and said the Mavs are allowing Nowitzki to play for Germany at EuroBasket 2007. He’ll start training with the German squad on Tuesday, matter of fact, which means he’ll have plenty of time to play in seven — count ’em — warm-up games before the tourney gets underway in Spain on September 3. But where’s the fun in that?

In other sports news, have you seen this NFL on Fox promo featuring Tony Romo and Jimmy Johnson? “Cooking with Romo,” it’s called. That guy’s on fire. –Robert Wilonsky
