All great literary and theatrical figures seem to be getting their own origin stories these days, whether it’s the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz in the musical Wicked or Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s origin stories for Peter Pan with Peter and the Starcatchers. Now, Mary Shelley’s most famous physician has his tale told in The Secret Origins of Doctor Frankenstein. The Fun House Theatre and Film group relates the origin of the man who made the monster, placing real historical figures like Dr. Robert Knox and Nikola Tesla against a steampunk backdrop to explore the doctor’s motivations for trying to find a way to cheat death and create life. The production runs Thursday through Sunday at Plano Children’s Theatre, 1301 Custer Road. Tickets are $8. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., with additional matinees at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
